Chuck is asking for club guidance/assistance on the 5K race in Shelbyville scheduled for Saturday, December 6 at 6pm. All proceeds for the event will go to the Pregnancy Center of Shelbyville. A meeting with the Shelbyville race directors is scheduled for Tuesday, 11/18 and Chuck will email Mach Tenn with what help or direction he needs. He will pick up the Mach Tenn timing equipment and any other equipment he needs post-race at Tims Ford.

The Tennessee State Parks 2008-2009 Running Tour has begun. Mach Tenn puts on two of the State Park events: Tims Ford Deer Trail 6 miles at Tims Ford State Park on Saturday, December 6 and the Fall Creek Thaw 15K at Fall Creek Falls State Park on Saturday, March 7. Bob and Aggie Alt are the race directors for both events. For more information on the tour, visit http://www.state.tn.us/environment/parks/RunningTour/.

Lana talked about her experience competing in the Florida Ironman on November 2. Lana finished in an impressive time of 11:58:23. She thoroughly enjoyed the event and highly recommends it to anyone interested in competing at Ironman distances. Her advice – don’t overtrain.

Another Florida “event” was talked about. In Pensacola, there is a 5K run that takes place every Tuesday evening. The race starts and finished at McGuire’s Irish Pub. Anyone up for a field trip?

The Dogwood 5K Run took place last Saturday. Turnout was in the low 30’s but a good race and a fun event.

The annual AEDC Turkey Trot 3 Mile race is taking place this Wednesday at 2:30 pm. Entry fee is $10. The event is open to the public, but requires an AEDC employee to get non-base individuals through the front gates. If you’re interested in running, Melissa has volunteered to help get people onto the base.

Discussed having our annual Winter Party sometime in January or February. This is typically a joint party for the running club and the Highland Rimmers Bicycle Club. The bike club will be meeting later this week and will be asked about their interest in the party. There will likely be some type of multi-sport gathering sometime earlier in the day on the day of the party.

We revisited creating some type of running event in Lynchburg, potentially associated with Jack Daniels. We’re thinking about a half marathon in the Spring. Not sure we can get everything lined up for next Spring but we’ll see. There are a couple of club members with an “in” at Jack Daniels and/or Lynchburg so that should help with trying to get something organized. Next step is to find people interested in being the race director or a race co-director. If you’re interested contact Mike Niederhauser.

On Thanksgiving Day, there will be a club group run at the Manchester Recreation Center at 8 am. Options are a 3 mile or a 6 mile run. Everyone’s invited!

Mike Freuchtl volunteered to organize the December club group run/multi-sport get together. Details to come later.

Mike Niederhauser volunteered to organize the February club group run/multi-sport get together. Again, details to come later.

For anyone planning way ahead, a highly recommended race is the Gulf Coast Half Ironman on May 9. Good race for individuals and relay teams. Anyone interested in perhaps being on a relay team should email the club members and try to hook up with someone.

Mike N would like to remind everyone that if you compete in an event, you should email Holly Matthews and Joel Fortner about the event and your results so we can get some publicity for club member activities and accomplishments.

The next club meeting will occur sometime in February in Manchester. Meeting details will be sent out at a future date.
