Event Updates
The Marine Corp League 5-miler held on 9/26 drew 50+ participants. It wasn't just raining that day it was storming. For next year, the event planners are considering making the event a 5K race, and, if they get 100 pre-registered participants their sponsor will donate a large flat-screen TV as a prize.
The monthly Daddy Billy's Runs have been drawing 10 – 18 runners each month. Typically more people show up after the run to take part in the post-run eating, drinking and socializing. The run, an easy 3 miles, takes place on the first Tuesday of every month at 6:00 pm. Meet at Daddy Billy's.
About 15 people joined in on the Daddy Billy's run held this past week. The next run, being slated as the Daddy Billy's Fun Run, will be on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 6:30, starting at Daddy Billy's. The run course is 3 very flat miles.
Updates/Discussion Items/Upcoming Events
The organizers of the Jack Daniels 5K would like Mach Tenn to help them promote their event. Will discuss further at a future meeting.
Mike N revisited a prior discussion concerning promoting club members' race participation and results. He will approach Joel Fortner about taking the lead on being the point-of-contact and doing result write-ups for the club's website.
State Park Run Series:
- Les Marsh, who has done every race so far in this year's series, says that attendance has been very good.
- For the Tim's Ford race on Dec. 5, there are 8 runners pre-registered so far. T-shirt ordering is under control. Mike N and Aggie are taking care of the awards together. The Elstons have lots of bottled water leftover from the Tri and Du so Aggie doesn't need to buy more.
- Fall Creek Falls – will talk about it more at a future meeting about whether or not Mach Tenn will continue to organize this event. David Sliger is talking to Blaine Wilcher about possibly taking over the event.
The Friends of Tim's Ford want to put on a 5K at Tim's Ford in the spring and may help out at this year's state park race to learn how to put on a race.
Winter Party – Group voted ‘yes' to having a party and ‘yes' to having it jointly with the Bike Club. Charles has offered to host the gathering and will let us know what Jan./Feb. dates will work for him.
Jack Daniels Half Marathon :
Potential date of April 3.
Alcohol issue is still to be resolved.
Food area/ Finish line still to be determined.
Will need two versions of t-shirts since JD does not allow for participants under the age of 21 to have their logo on t-shirts.
Some of the Club's proceeds from the event will donated to Honor Flight – an organization that flies WWII veterans to Washington , DC to view the war's memorial.
Will be meeting with JD contacts in the next week or so to answer questions and discuss some details. Corporate approval is sought by Dec. 1.
Steve Rubenstein compiled some information on Grand Prix. Mike N requested that by next meeting Melissa, and whoever she pulls into the process, come up with a proposal for a club Grand Prix that includes a timeframe during which the Grand Prix will occur, events that would be included, categories, point assignments and prizes.
A new tri-shop in the Cool Springs area contacted Melissa about wanting to put on an event whose distances would be somewhere between Olympic and Half-Iron Man. They want to use the Mach Tenn Tri venue. They asked Melissa if she'd consider being the Race Director (she said no). They want to put the race on in September on a day that would compete with the Cedars of Lebanon and Frantic Frog events.
